Visa fee from 1 July 2026
From 1 July 2026, Japan’s visa fee is about 15,000 yen for a single-entry visa and about 30,000 yen for a multiple-entry visa, when the application is accepted at an overseas mission on or after that date. No fee, or a different amount, can apply depending on the purpose of travel and nationality.
International tourist tax
- The tax is 3,000 yen per departure from Japan by international ship or aircraft, under the Act as amended and in force from 1 July 2026.
- Not charged on children under two on the departure date, on air passengers who transit Japan and leave within 24 hours of arrival under the cabinet order, or on people on a ship or aircraft forced to put in at Japan by weather or other unavoidable reasons.
- A ticket contract concluded before 1 July 2026 that already fixed a departure date keeps the previous rate for a departure on or after that day, unless the contract charges the tax separately from the fare. In that case the new rate applies.
Specific residence card (My Number integrated)
- Act No. 59 of 2024, which allows residence cards to be combined with My Number cards, took effect on 14 June 2026 except for some provisions. Combining the two is optional.
- When a fee applies to issuing a specific residence card, the Immigration Services Agency charges 1,900 yen, paid with a revenue stamp. Issuance is generally free at the first procedure on or after 14 June 2026 for a person holding a card issued up to 13 June 2026.
- Applications for the specific residence card cannot be made through the online system for now and must be filed at the counter.
